The process involves reintroducing a considered palette of groundcovers, grasses, ferns, climbers, shrubs, and trees native the project location, steadily reducing introduced elements— including lawns, concrete, pavers and exotic plants. Making space for nature's return.

Are native gardens expensive?
They don't need to be.
Our approach is focused on making native landscapes accessible, with the intention of helping as many people as possible naturalise their living spaces.
By primarily using tubestock plants (plants in their early growth stages), I am able to create rich, layered plantings without excessive upfront cost.
How much maintenance do native gardens need?
While not maintenance-free, native gardens require far less hedging and mowing than conventional exotic gardens.
I work with nature's rhythm — adjusting rather than controlling, keeping an eye out for the occassional weed and pruning when necessary.
Establishing a native landscape is a journey. I offer ongoing guidance and maintenance to support you these plants through their most critical first years. From specialist native fertilising to selective weeding, I take the guesswork out of the process so you can simply enjoy the results.
Will it look messy or unstructured?
When people think of native plants, words like bush or scrub often come to mind.
Our gardens are carefully composed using layered design principles—structured from the outset and allowed to soften into a natural form over time, without ever overwhelming the space. By balancing design foundations with organic growth, I ensure your landscape feels intentional and curated.
What is the typical project timeline?
Most projects range from two to three days for small area conversions, to a couple weeks for full-scale garden transformations.
While the installation is relatively quick, the real transformation happens as the garden establishes — with plants settling in and life gradually returning over the months that follow.
Can you work with my existing non-native plants?
Absolutely. It can be a collaborative approach, phasing in the original native while phasing out the introduced species — of your specification, of course.
If you're sentimental about the hydrangeas out the front, no stress — I can work around them and make the space feel balanced.
Sometimes it starts with a small native feature area — a simple way to experience the change before having the rest of the garden transformed back into a natural haven.
When is the best time of year to start planting?
Autumn and spring are generally the ideal times to plant, allowing roots to establish with milder temperatures and natural rainfall.
That said, planting can be done year-round with the right approach and care — so there's rarely a need to wait.
How long until the garden looks fully established?
Plants are given space to grow into their natural form, and with time (often within the first few years), the garden begins to fill out into a rich, layered landscape — with a mature sanctuary typically achieved by around year three.
It can look a little open at first — that's completely normal, especially when using tubestock to keep costs down and maximise plant options. I recommend specially formulated native plant fertilisers and offer guidance to ensure your garden thrives.
